Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
